The H2b Visa Program is divided into two periods (or two seasons): summer - with a job start date of April 1st or after and winter - job start date October 1st are after. The jobs under the H2B program go very fast, most, businesses file their requests for workers with U.S. government 120 days prior to the job start date. Employers generally start their recruitment process and looking at resumes four to five months before the season begins. We encourage all interested applicants to register early so that your resumes can be forwarded promptly to the employers. Our deadline for accepting applications is, November 1st for the summer season and May 15th for the winter season. Application Procedures First Step is to contact E-JAM’s office at 876-974-EJAM (3526), or email: jobs@employmentjamaica.com to make an appointment to attend one of our orientation/ registration sessions. During the orientation, you will be fully informed about the program and if you desire to participate in the program you will undergo a one-on-one pre-screening interview. Our goal is to seek candidates with a “can do” attitude and the potential to act as Ambassadors for Jamaica. Documents Required: Special arrangements can be made to mail in required documents and to do telephone pre-screening interview. Your application will be completed once we have received all the required documentation and verify that the information provided is correct. Applications will not be considered if there is missing paperwork. Once your application is approved, your information will be uploaded in our database and presented to our overseas employers. We generally submit your application to more than one employer who has a position that matches your skills. You will be notified as soon as we get confirmation from an employer. Often times, employers will conduct their own interviews, either by telephone, webcam, or in person. We do not charge any placement fees - In January 2009, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the US Department of Labor (DOL) released new rules governing the H-2B program. One of the major changes initiated is the inability for any recruiter, agent, attorney, or employer to charge an H2B worker a placement fee. In many instances workers will be responsible for their return airfare, ground transportation, housing deposit, medical insurance and visa fee.
